Jennifer,

The way Open Office is structured makes it difficult to diagnose problems so many steps may be required before I can tell where the problem is.

The first thing I want you to do is to go into the menu item "Tools->Extension Manager" and give me a screenshot of what you see there or if you can't take a screenshot, give me the detail of what is in that window.

Please expand all the items in the list on the left hand side of the "Extension Manager" window so that everything is visible and please resize the window if needed to show everything.

I'm attaching a screenshot of what it looks like on my machine.

For your reference, here is a web page which explains how to take screenshots in Windows. There is a section on Vista:

http://www.wikihow.com/Take-a-Screenshot-in-Microsoft-Windows

The result of this test will tell me whether the extensions have been able to install properly or not.

Jennifer,

Thank you for the screenshot. It is very helpful. Judging by the screenshot,
OOHanzi is not correctly installed. You should be able to see oounihan and
oowebdict among the installed extensions.

Also, the presence of unihan-lib-0.2.jar among the extensions is a bit
peculiar. Maybe this is a valid way to make a jar file available to Open
Office and I just do not know about this method but it is certainly not the
way things are configured for me.

I'm attaching two screenshots which I took in Windows. The first one shows
you what the Extension Manager should be displaying:

1. Please make sure that all 3 extensions are installed and enabled.

2. In the case of oohanzi-0.5.oxt you may need to select the OOHanzi component
of oohanzi-0.5.oxt (the one with the little folder icon with an S on it and
which says "Disabled" in your screenshot) and click the "Enable" button on the
right of the screen.

The second image shows you how the jar libraries should be made accessible to
Open Office. It is done by going into "Tools->Options", then selecting the
Java option on the left side of the dialog box and clicking on the "Class
Path" button. Then each jar file must be added to the list. (The full
instructions are in the installation instructions of OOHanzi.) You need to
make available both unihan-lib-0.2.jar and webdict-lib-0.1.jar.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,
Louis

Louis, you're a genius. Not just for creating such a wonderful utility, but
for being able to walk a total nimrod like me through the work of repairing
what she messed up! Your instructions worked perfectly and OOHanzi is now
fully functional. Thank you so much. This is such a huge help to me.

Thank you for taking the time to help. Please enjoy your stay in
Taiwan...and keep posting those photos!

With thanks and metta,

Jennifer

Jennifer,

Thanks for reporting success.

Based on your experience I think it would be desirable for me to update the documentation with the screenshots that I produced while resolving your problem. I've changed the bug description and the status, etc. accordingly.
