Bug Description

Tracker 0.12 is the latest stable release of GNOME's search engine. It is needed for GNOME Documents. I've tested version 12.6-1 by letting it index my home directory and I ran some searches. The indexed documents showed up in GNOME Documents as they were supposed to.

Build log: https://launchpadlibrarian.net/81619551/buildlog_ubuntu-oneiric-amd64.tracker_0.12.3-1~ppa1_BUILDING.txt.gz

Tracker 0.12 has been in the GNOME 3 PPA for a month now (since October 5). I've been running it on my computer for a month and I've not seen a single complaint about it not working. https://launchpad.net/~gnome3-team/+archive/gnome3/+builds?build_text=tracker&build_state=all

Alternatively, we should probably sync tracker 0.12.7-1 from Debian experimental to Precise first.

Thank you for requesting this backport. I've set this to incomplete pending the upload of tracker 0.12.7-1 to precise. Once that is uploaded, you can reset this to New. The requirement for a backport is that it builds, installs, and runs in the targeted release. Please let us know if this is true with the new version (0.12.7-1). Also, there is a reverse dependency in oneiric for bognor-regis. Please let us know if this application also will still install and run with the new version of tracker. If you complete all this testing as well, please set the bug to Confirmed.

I've spent a good amount of time trying to figure out how to run bognor-regis and I haven't been able to figure it out. It's some media server thing for Meego. Given its rather low popcon, obscurity, and the fact that tracker 0.10 will still be in Oneiric, I don't think it's worth looking into bognor-regis much more.

That seems like a fine conclusion, especially given that bognor-regis itself has no rdepends.

Have you checked a test build of the backport yet? It looks like that's all that's still needed.

According to http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=643938, it would seem that bognor-regis would need to be rebuilt against the new tracker to use it. However, since the old version is there and it should be parallel installable, this should in theory be fine. Also, bognor-regis is part of meego, so the likelihood of anyone using it on Ubuntu is very slim and the popcon numbers are very low and support this theory. So, build/install/run the new tracker and we're good.

I'm waiting on tracker 0.12.7-1 to build on powerpc in precise. I'll update this bug when that finally happens.

That's fine, but does tracker 0.12.7-1 build/install/run on oneiric?

tracker 0.14.0-2ubuntu1 is now in precise, could someone please test this as well (that it builds, installs, and runs? I can throw up a backport if someone needs a build to test.
