Bug Description

Description: Ubuntu Trusty Tahr (development branch)
Release: 14.04

-----
onboard:
  Installed: 1.0.0-0ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1.0.0-0ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1.0.0-0ubuntu2 0
        500 http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages
        100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

----
Expected to happen:

When screen is locked, user should be able to use the onboard if onboard is active.

------
What happened instead:

To produce the bug:
enable onboard.
enable onboard floating icon
Lock the screen to see login screen
Result is a floating icon with no ability to use it.

This prevents computers with touch screen only from login in unless they use actual keyboard.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1301070/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package.

Espen, do you have the screen keyboard setting enabled?
System settings -> Universal Access -> Typing -> On Screen Keyboard

There are two lock screens since Ubuntu 14.04, IIRC, and that switch toggles between them. If it's 'on' you should get the old lock screen that has Onboard embedded.

I am also having the trouble of not getting the onboard keyboard in the lock screen. I do have the toggle set to show it then. It appears that the keyboard is up, but it is invisible "behind" the lock screen. The reason I say this is that, when I unlock the screen with a physical USB keyboard, the onboard keyboard is briefly visible on the screen, then it disappears.
Thank you for your help.

p.s. the release is 1.0.1-0ubuntu1
(latest from Software Manager. Sorry, I haven't been able to install it from the download here because it leads to trouble installing distutils which leads to trouble with setuptools, so I gave up...)

p.p.s
(sorry to keep adding to this, but I want to communicate that I also tried adding the PPA from the README, but that doesn't work either, due to not supporting trusty, which I haven't been able to resolve from searching the web for answers...)

The onboard version you are using is a bit outdated. The last onboard release available in our stable PPA:

It is weird that you don't see the trusty package, as it is also available in the PPA. Perhaps, you can get the debs directly from here:
