Bug Description

Video playback of many videos (it seems to depend on the codec) shows broken colors (people's skin is blue).

For video files, the thumbnail preview is shown correctly but when playing it back, they are blue-tinted. This is regardless of which player you use.

The codecs work fine, however, since if you transcode the same videos with ffmpeg and save as jpegs, they are fine. It's only when playing them back directly. This is also confirmed by the fact that in video editing software, where video is usually processed frame by frame before displaying, it looks ok.

According to what i read here: http://www.wiredrevolution.com/ubuntu/fix-blue-tinted-video-in-ubuntu it is a very well-known issue due to some interaction between the nvidia drivers and xorg, so I'm astonished at finding out that it has not been fixed yet and that it is not even reported here.

This is a regression that appear out of the nothing some months ago, I guess this was introduced by some update. Now I have Ubuntu 11.10 with the current nvidia driver and the issue is still there.

This is CRITICAL: this turns your computer into garbage if you use it to do anything video-related.
