Ok - peeking into your attached log attests that you are indeed using the proprietary nvidia drivers version 270.30. I see exactly the same behavior with v 280.13. But everything is smooth sailing when I am using the intel driver.

Hinted by Сергій Матрунчик (aka SkyMan) in comment 2 on bug #635289 (which appears unrelated) I discovered that running Netbeans under sudo makes things "work" again - needless to say this is not a sustainable solution... But could work for searching souls while we wait for a fix...

So perhaps it's really a permissions (or apparmor?) problem?

This appears to be fixed with the latest round of updates in Oneiric. I have:

openjdk-6-jre: 6b23~pre5-0ubuntu1
nvidia-current: 280.13-0ubuntu1

That said I am not 100% sure that it is really fixed. Keeping the bug open until someone else can confirm.
