Type this, as root (sudo su):
echo FRAMEBUFFER=y > /etc/initramfs-tools/conf.d/splash
update-initramfs -u

I think this workaround must be included in Ubuntu 10.10 by default.

I tried that but the logo and 4 points still in text mode (are not graphic... )

The only change is that the _ (underscore blinking) not appear and during this period the logo (text mode) is displayed.

This is still a problem in natty beta-2. Booting I only see a blank purple screen before X starts. And the above FRAMEBUFFER=y hack doesn't seem to have any effect.

Confirmed. Still a problem in Ubuntu 11.04 GA. Though on my other machine where I do see the logo I notice the blank purple screen lasts a very long time before it appears. Maybe this bug where no logo is ever seen is simply due to fast-booting machines and plymouth splash just not starting early enough?

Clarified the bug title. Also removed "bad resolution" because that's actually by design if you read the plymouth docs about non-KMS drivers.

summary: - Missing Ubuntu logo on boot with nvidia drivers + bad resolution
+ Missing Ubuntu logo on boot (text mode splash only) with nvidia drivers

Ignore my previous comments -- I am actually experiencing different bugs (540801 or 771905).

Doesn't this one sound like a regression of bug 526892?

Why the importance of this bug is "nothing" compared to the same bug report about ATi that has been marked as MEDIUM ?

This issue is fixed with adding "GRUB_GFXPAYLOAD_LINUX=keep" to
/etc/default/grub which preserving the graphics mode set using
'gfxmode'.
