Bug Description

Let's keep it short:

I've been in touch with some GPM developpers to make sure FN Keys and power management on Nvidia based Vaios is working fine, which it did in lucid, after patching GnomePowerManager and using the nouveau instead of the closed source nvidia driver.
Also the package sony-laptop needed to be installed

Now testing maverick I can't find ANY Sony related package in APT, which caused my test system to loos every FN key, even with the now updated GPM brightness woun't work as expected because the keys are not recognized.

Sony uses a proprietary hardware and NEEDS the extra package, I would be pleasant to get more informations why this has been removed for the .35 kernel series.

FN were working - missing package will cause every Sony laptop being in trouble.

I too use nouveau driver not Nividia proprietary driver, acpi_listen recognise key code when fn keys are pressed S1,S2,Eject, Mute,F5,F6,F7,F10,channel -,channel +, TV Rec, and AV Mode but does not activate event on my Sony Vaio VGN-AR690U. i managed to work F5 and F6 keys for controling brightness install nvclock from maverick repo. but it does not show indicator like volume.

I'm sorry but we're not talking about the same issue, Vol mute + - and S1 and S2 are working out of the box on my machine with maverick, only FN + F5,6,7,10,12
are not working anymore

i mean every acpi_listen gives SNC code but does not do anything. i am not taking about Volume + -, it works out of box including Mute, my mistake i mentioned Mute in previous post. when AV Mode key is pressed it runs Rhythmbox.

you're right, the acpi codes are not interpreted:

natty doesn't need any additional package because the sony moudles are "included"
Everything works well if you're using a grafics driver - which the prorpetary nvidia driver doesn't - but nouveau does !

I don't see how a missing package is a kernel problem
