libGL.so.1 is linked to wrong nvidia driver version

I have the nvidia-current package installed. If I want to start amarok I get the following error message:

$ amarok
amarok: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/libGL.so.1: undefined symbol: _nv000025gl

$ ls -la /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 18 2010-03-30 12:11 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> libGL.so.185.18.36

if I change the link to

$ ls -la /usr/lib/libGL.so.1
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 25 2010-03-30 12:21 /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 -> nvidia-current/libGL.so.1

everything works again. HOWEVER, after rebooting my computer, the link get's restored to the libGL.so.185.18.36 file.

Oh, and if I do

$ dpkg -S /usr/lib/libGL.so.185.18.36
dpkg: /usr/lib/libGL.so.185.18.36 not found.

so I don't know where this file is coming from.

None of those files are in the ia32-libs package

Is there a way that I can help to further debug this problem. It's super annoying that the link to /usr/lib/libGL.so.1 get's rewritten everytime I reboot.

Did you use the installer from Nvidia's website on your current installation of Ubuntu?

yes, I used to have the nvidia drivers installed using the nvidia installer. But I did an uninstall before I upgraded my ubuntu to 10.04. And the nvidia drivers from the installer were some 190 version, not the 185.

Same bug with an update
1- Upgrade to lucid
2- Remove nvidia drivers (to see if it affect boot speed)
3- Install nvidia "current" driver (190)

Then bug appears launching amarok (and i remove it by doing

cd /usr/lib
sudo rm libGL.so.1
sudo ln -s nvidia-current/libGL.so.1 .

How did you install the driver?

Note: what you suggest is not the right way to solve the problem.

I uninstall the driver using synaptic and install it using jockey (System > Admin > Hardware Drivers).
I know that is not the best way to do it but at least i can start Amarok

This bug affects me, in particular it prevents me from starting KDE. With the symlink wrong, ksmserver crashes and I get thrown back to kdm. Therefore, I think this bug should be marked with "High" importance, following the guidelines from https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Importance ("Has a severe impact on a small portion of Ubuntu users (estimated)").

After 5 years of running one install, i decided it was time to upgrade my hardware and do a fresh install. This bug no longer effects me. Unless there is opposition, I would vote that it is labeled as "incomplete" like it's near duplicate Bug #572937 and set to expire.
