Nvidia Divers lead to broken desktop on after "Partial Update"

Bug Description
Environment: My desktop (which needs to run Compiz effects / Dual Screen etc)
Had an "Unable to install updates, please do a partial update" message
I then ran the update through the GUI
When the system rebooted I had 800x600 resolution only on one screen. My Proprietary Nvidia drivers had stopped working
I went to the drivers GUI and tried to download them
Unable to install drivers
Additional:
Downloading the drivers from Nvidia's website and installing them through the CLI does not work for me either
Ubuntu forums provides no good workaround at this time

Difficult to know what to do as there isn't much knowledge around this issue
