nouveau doesn't work on a Sony VAIO VPCCW (GT 230M)

Binary package hint: nouveau-firmware

To get video on my laptop I must add "nouveau.modeset=0" after "quiet splash" as documented in https://wiki.edubuntu.org/X/Troubleshooting/Nouveau#Disabling%20nouveau

Will try xorg-edgers/nouveau PPA per the same document and post results here.

When using nouveau the screen remains blank with the back-light off.

Per IRC conversation at #nouveau the problem might be:

This is still not working on a fully updated 10.10
