error entering service date

Bug Description
Students are having trouble entering the date in which they performed a service.
I testing a student account where the problem was reported to have occurred, and confirmed it.
When entering the date properly (YYYY-MM-DD) for 2009-02-24, it returns the message:
ForbiddenAttribute
A server error occurred.
Students who enter the date as YYYY-M-DD or other method of dropping a leading zero, it defaults to 2009-01-01
This is happening with the following log entry:

This is the first time I've been alerted to the "forbidden attribute" problem. Though a number of students have entries dated 2009-01-01, which may be their carelessness or an indication of a problem.
We would prefer a reasonable drop-down or calendar method of date selecting, but are not unhappy with the current method (if it works).
