Nokia N95 not recognized by nm-tool in NM 0.7 - probably a hal-info patch is necessary

Bug Description

Binary package hint: hal-info

Nokia N95 is not being recognized as a modem even though hal seems to recognize it as a V.250 modem and give it a serial port.

This could probably been fixed by adding a line in the modm.fdi file for hal. I tried to make it work this way without luck.

I am running the N-M team PPA and the Antti's NM PPA (support for mbca) as well updated as of now.

nm-tool is not recognizing the device, but lsusb and lshal do. I can even make it dial with wvdial, but I want to use NM ;)

simple instructions:

sudo apt-get build-dep network-manager
bzr branch lp:~network-manager/network-manager/ubuntu.0.7
cd ubuntu.0.7
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b

and then install the .deb files created

if v.250 is detected then hal-info should be good enough for your case.

I did install your branch and it works perfectly with the Nokia E71. I have no idea why, but it is not working for the N95.

* Bus 001 Device 016: ID 0421:04f0 Nokia Mobile Phones - PC Suite:

nm-tool does not recognize the device as modem (and of course neither does the nm-applet either), although it does get recognized by hal as a V.250 modem, so wvdial does make a connection with the phone as modem.

I had previously made some changes to th fdi file. I tested with the changes and removed them for the fdi file with no success. This modem is not working with NM 0.7

I have to add that the N95 has never actually worked with NM, so it's not like this is a regression.

Any thought on what I can try next?

After some more testing I get a different result:

I checked the 10-modem.fdi file and found out that I had added a line for the n95 and commented out the generic CDC ACM lines.

So I erased my selvmade N95 configuration and after checking twice the fdi file I took away the comment line for the CDC ACM.

nm-tool is recognizing the device but no internet connection is made (It may have something to do with the PPP options, I have to test some more).

But it seems that the N95 is not a problem anymore

i think this is fixed now in NM 0.7.1 in jaunty. with latest packages you should be able to install udev-extras and then use the modem prober. If there are issues with that feature, please open a new bug and subscribe me.

my NOKIA E75 still won't connect out of the box on karmic..
please share your knowledge!
"blueman", usb, both find the device, but there seems something to be wrong with connecting..
the connection wheel spins extra fast and uncontrollably, never finishes spinning... i.e. nm doesn't connect through the phone, as far as one can rely on network managers indicator applet
