3) What I expected to happen was the .tiff file I scanned via a HP 5610v All-In-One Printer/Scanner using the xsane GUI, became text searchable.
4) Instead, when I entered the desired command as per the GNU Ocrad website:

This is not a bug in ocrad. The problem is your tiff image includes a feature not supported by your "tifftopnm" program, which belongs to the "netpbm" package (https:/ /launchpad. net/ubuntu/ karmic/ +package/ netpbm).
