Bug Description

Ubuntu 10.04 NetbookRemix When I boot my system after a short undefined time the menu/title bar at the top of my screen disappears with visual effects set to none. When I mouse over it the title menus pop up as normal so I can fumble around my system. I have found that setting visual effects to normal corrects the issue and the menu bar is back until I reboot and then visual effects get reset to none and the whole process starts again.

I have removed and re-installed all compiz packages via synaptic. No fix

Does it come back if you open a terminal and run 'gnome-settings-deamon &' ?

Hi Alan

That gives

john@john-netbook:~$ sudo gnome-settings-daemon
[sudo] password for john:

** (gnome-settings-daemon:2649): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon

** (gnome-settings-daemon:2649): WARNING **: Could not acquire name

Sorry that should read

john@john-netbook:~$ sudo gnome-settings-daemon &
[1] 2654
john@john-netbook:~$
** (gnome-settings-daemon:2655): WARNING **: Failed to acquire org.gnome.SettingsDaemon
