Interface responds slowly + display error in interface

Bug Description

The interface responds very slowly and awkwardly. Also, there are errors in the display of the interface. See the attached picture, notice the vertical lines close to the icons.

At the moment, I use the current versions of the needed packages for Ubuntu 8.10. I start "maximus" and "netbook-launcher" in order to use UNR, but the problem is as I described. By the way, a Samsung NC10 netbook is used.

The problem didn't exist about 10 days ago. Maybe the following caused it: I remember trying to use a projector with Ubuntu 8.10 and therefore changed the resolution for the display and the projector. Now, the resolution is set back to normal, but the errors remain.

Thanks for reporting this bug. Looks like your GL acceleration support is broken and the launcher is falling back to software rendering, which isn't good news.

Are you running on Intrepid or Jaunty? Could you please try again with a fully updated system. If that doesn't work, please attach your xorg.conf (/etc/X11/xorg.conf) and the output of the `glxinfo` command (you can run `glxinfo > glxinfo.log` in a terminal, without the quote, to create a file with the output). Marking as incomplete until then.

I am running Ubuntu 8.10 (Intrepid Ibex). I updated Ubuntu, but nothing changed.

I attached xorg.conf and the output of glxinfo.

Hmm, glxinfo shows that your running with direct rendering, but the screenshot shows that your not :-/

Can you attach the output of running:

CLUTTER_DEBUG=backend netbook-launcher

from a terminal please.

finally find a solution!

type the next for see the xorg.conf

sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
(type your password of admin)

see the line 'virtual' and the resolution indicated in it, if is more than 1024 type # before 'virtual'

next reboot the system.

Hi JordiMR.

Nice job, it works like it did before. Thank you.

It seems to be that the problem was somehow caused by connecting a device to the VGA output while using Ubuntu. Probaly it happens just when the resolution is changed. If the problem is the Linux kernel or a package used in order to make UNR work (or something else), I don't know.

If there are any further questions concerning my setup or if something is needed in order to analyse the problem in more detail, feel free to ask me.

I had the same problem
I connected my eeepc 1000h to a vga screen using the screen resolution applet. It prompted me to change the virtual resolution and save it to xorg.conf, and required me to log out and back in. I attached a screenshot of what happens when you switch menus
Obviously when the applet is used to go back to the original screen settings, it doesn't delete the virtual setting.
thanks for the fix.
this is probably a bug in gnome-display-properties as well as in the UNR desktop menu

I had the same problem with my Eee 900A. I also removed the virtual section (by running dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg), which took care of the problem.
