Bug Description
In Ubuntu, XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR is the Desktop (which is not a good idea but that's not the point)
In Ubuntu Netbook Remix we have to create a dedicated directory for that since the desktop is only a Launcher.
Maybe a bug report could also be filled against Ubuntu to create a dedicated directory for XDG_DOWNLOAD_DIR that would avoid to have to much differences between Ubuntu and Ubuntu Netbook Remix ?

I think I agree, and this is a very good point. We will have to think about how to do this best. Though. For instance, will the user find the "Downloads" directory any easier than the "Desktop" directory? In the FF download dialog it does say that file are downloaded to "Desktop" and I think there is a "Open contraining folder" option or something.
As we are trying to minimise the amount of changes from base Ubuntu this one might be tough to fix in the short term, though.
