netbook-launcher standalone chrashes on non GNOME session

i used ume-launcher in 8,10 and now i upgraded to 9.10
the launcher works fine in the gnome session, but standalone (in pekwm session) it just dies:

what i expect is that i see the same beautiful desktop as in gnome

you can reproduce this by
installing ubuntu netbook remix 9.10
apt-get install pekwm
logout, login using pekwm session
start terminal
run 'netbook-launcher'

a guide how to start the launcher in other environments (prerequisites like gnome-config-daemon) would be nice

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. We don't test on other environment than GNOME as netbook-launcher hugely use GNOME components like gnome-settings-daemon and so forth.
