Desktop does not display properly

Upon Installing Ubuntu Netbook Remix via Launchpad's instructions, my desktop looks like the screenshot provided on this forum: http://forums.mininoteuser.com/viewtopic.php?f=11&t=383 I would really like to utilize this new setup/distro; but am completely at a loss. Any idea what I need to do to get it to display properly? Thanks!

Furthermore, I have ran ume-launcher in a terminal and here is the result:

/usr/share/desktop-directories/Favorites.directory
(ume-launcher:6334): GdkPixbuf-CRITICAL **: gdk_pixbuf_new_from_file_at_scale: assertion `filename != NULL' failed

I have no clue what I am looking at here and would really like to fix this error... Thanks!

Update on the above situation:

I played with the xorg.conf files and got it to work as expected... Now the ume-launcher is "lagging" really bad?

Any idea on this one? Or how to make it quicker???

Here is what appears in the terminal window now that I changed xorg.conf files: (BTW, I am using the HP2133)

This affects the launcher only.

Could you please add the following info:

- Which window manager are you using?
- What graphics card do you have? Which drivers?
- Are desktop-effects enabled?
- Can you run other GL apps? Try glxgears and please note the quality and output.

I noticed when I had the desktop effects enabled it would cause everything to get messed up for instance, the entire launcher would be white when I tried to open a program as a top layered window but when I switched to the launcher it would display the launcher occasionally.

I wonder if he is having similar issues.

Please try and launch ume-launcher like this:

CLUTTER_VBLANK=none ume-launcher

and see if it makes a difference. Also, as nmwillard mentioned, please switch off desktop-effects.

I have the same problme to with my 11.04 natty. is there a fix for this.
