Feature request: Modify front page

Not sure if this is the appropriate place for it, but here goes:

I find myself wanting the ability to modify the front page. Particularly to display toolbox tools on the main page, in addition to having the option of integrating individual tools there (specifically machine tracker and syslog analyzer)

Basically I want the day to day tools ready without having to click through any menus.

It's interesting you should post this item; the same thing was discussed on the bi-annual NAV reference committee meeting just two days prior to your posting. I was just about to add it as a new item, but now I'll just be tagging yours :)

Some ideas/points from the discussions in the latest nav-ref meeting:

The front-page could be reimplemented as a "portal" type page, with re-usable "portlets/widgets" that can be placed arbitrarily on the page by individual users.

Suggestions for useful "portlets":

  - Machine tracker search form
  - Portadmin search form
  - Status (codebase shared with the actual status tool)
  - Messages
  - Upcoming/active maintenance tasks
  - Link lists and contact information

Implementing this as a part of the redesign of NAV's graphical user interface.

I suspect the current list of Navlets does not realize it's fullest potential, thus we need to issue a demo with a request for interesting Navlets.
