Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

1) open a nautilus window in a directory
2) select a file (or files) you want to delete
3) press the delete key

regardless of what you have selected in preferences for "Ask before emptying the trash or deleting files", it simply deletes the file(s) without confirmation.

this used to work, but seems to have broken roughly since the last time nautilus was upgraded through the software updates program.

Thanks for your bug report. For me that works ok. It asks, when I empty the trash and REALLY delete the file. Doesn't that work for you?

Using the context menu delete ask if you want to move to the trash, using the key doesn't, upstream bug

daniel: yes, if I send it to the trash, then do "empty trash", I get a confirmation dialog.

I think that was the bit I was missing. I also have "Include a delete command that bypasses trash" turned on, and was assuming that pressing the delete key would actually delete the file, not just send it to the trash. turns out I need to shift-delete to actually delete the file, and in that case, I get a confirmation dialog.

I'm for withdrawing this bug.

it would be nice if I could disable the trash functionality entirely, so that delete would actually delete, but that's an upstream issue, and properly a feature request rather than a bug.
