Bug Description

Using Ubuntu 9.10 64bit ed

I copy a file (about 600-700MB) to an SD card, it goes on to tell me the status of the copying through the "File Operations" dialog, which is great. Looks like it is making great progress... then gets to the end (100% copied) and just sits there for minutes while my SD card reader is flashing indicating it is doing something.

Looks like the File Operations dialog is misreporting the status information. Either it is reporting how far it is writing to the buffer which is to be written to the SD card or there is some end procedure that it is not taking into account.

It is *VERY* annoying as I expect that when it is at 700MB/700MB, it is done, not "oh, I'm mostly done, but not quite yet, just hold on a sec while I just sit here and appear to do nothing." x(

This could also cause data loss and/or damage if some user thinks that it really is done and yanks the card. Please remember that not all card readers or USB keys have LEDs indicating what is going on.

Just happened to stumble upon https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=591546. So, it seems this is already reported upstream.

The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.
