Bug Description

I experienced this myself in Xubuntu, but from what I have seen, it holds true for Ubuntu as well:

When applying a label to an icon (on the desktop or in Thunar), one has to right-click the icon, select the second tab of the context menu and choose the label.
Would it be possible to have the label selection on the first tab of the context menu (somewhere below the copy/cut/paste buttons)? This would save one click per icon to label.

Furthermore, it would be nice if labels could be applied to several icons at once. Unlike the copy/cut buttons, the label checkboxes in the second tab of the context menu seem to apply to single icons only, even if more are selected before the right-click.

You can apply labels to more than one file at a time (in gnome, at least). If you select multiple files, right click, then choose properties.

But, yeah, I agree: assigning labels is way too cumbersome.

Not sure what the OP is referring to, labels as in emblems[nautlius]?
Or labels as in remaning?

could you provide a screenshot of the problem?

Sorry for not being clear enough in the first post. My first bug report, and I blew it. I'll try harder next time.

Yes, it's emblems I was talking about. In MacOS, the equivalent thing is called labels, that's what threw me off.

I have conjured up my gimp skills and created a collage of screenshots to illustrate what I mean.

Once again: This is in Thunar (Xubuntu), but from what I've seen, Nautilus behaves the same way.

In nautilus quick access to emblems is available from the side pane. This is not a problem in nautilus, Hence not a papercut.

A paper cut is a minor usability annoyance that an average user would encounter on his/her first day of using a new installation of Ubuntu 9.10.

For further info about papercuts criteria , pls read > https://wiki.ubuntu.com/PaperCut

Don't worry though, This bug has been marked as "invalid" ONLY in the papercuts project.
