Bug Description

The Nautilus gconf key /apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop hides all the icons on the desktop but does not restore them when toggled back on. This I consider a hundred paper cut bug. This way we can assign a key shortcut to hide or show the desktop.

This is a valid bug, but it does not affect most users' experience of Ubuntu, as there is no prominent user-level feature utilizing this key.

Currently I noticed that my icons and contents of ~/Desktop directory is not visible on desktop, flag

/apps/nautilus/preferences/show_desktop is enabled. How can I my icons back on desktop???:)

My system is production release 10.04 LTS of ubuntu. I think that such existing bugs and no simple solution to resolving it its completly destroys view of ubuntu are operating system for newbies like a good alternative to Windows.
