Bug Description
The selected background automatically turns off when switching to the "List" view. This was probably intentional, but I think it would provide better customization if backgrounds were allowed in this view mode as well. The shading that helps the eyes follow the table rows could be a semi-transparent overlay or could be removed when a background other than white is selected. Several of the view modes in the side bar ("Places", "Tree", etc.) should have the option of adding a background as well.

This does not improve the usability of the default Ubuntu experience, which does not use Nautilus background images. It is not a paper cut.
