Bug Description

This is a usability bug of minor importance.

Selecting (via a marquee or Ctrl/Shift-Click) multiple icons on the desktop (or a Nautilus window in Icon mode) and dragging them should create a 'ghost' semitransparent copy of the icons, as originally arranged before the dragging action commenced that serve to indicate the position of the icons on the desktop (or Nautilus window) while the mouse moves and before the drag action is completed.

Current situation:

Nautilus currently only provides this 'ghost' icon for the object exactly beneath the pointer. This 'ghost' icon is not semitranslucent, but opaque. For the remaining selected icons being dragged Nautilus merely provides a dotted outline. This is poor from a usability point of view for the following reasons:

1. The dotted outline is not visible over a range of backgrounds.
2. The single 'icon' that appears while dragging can be misleading to new users who might think that they're only acting upon a single object.
3. The opaqueness of the icon representing object being dragged makes it difficult to differentiate it between the other objects on the Desktop (Nautilus window).

The bug is old and Ubuntu changed quite a lot since, there has also been no activity here nor similar reports. Closing since we believe the issue as described is deprecated but feel free to file a new report if you still have problems in recent Ubuntu versions.
