Bug Description
Using 24.04 version of Ubuntu I noticed a small change in the way zipped files are handled. In the previous version, the double click action opened the zipped file allowing the user to see its contents and then decide what to do; in the new version, however, double clicking triggers the direct extraction of the entire file into the working directory.
In itself it's not a big problem... until the computer crashes because the double click happened on the 1.5G zipped log.
To resolve the problem, the appropriate gnome utility must be reinstalled:
sudo apt install file-roller
Subsequently, simply right-click on a zipped file, click on Open with..., select File Roller and enable "always use for this type of file".
Initially I thought that the utility had been excluded due to the shortcut for the minimal installation, but it is also missing in the full installation; bad thing, it really changes the UX in managing this type of file.
IMHO this utility and association must be restored.
