Bug Description

Binary package hint: nautilus

Hi,

As requested at

http://brainstorm.ubuntu.com/idea/194/

----
Hi!

I'm a big fan of Images like .iso.
But it is not very easy to mount this Images.
I think there must be a Tool in Nautilus and Dolphin wich alows mounting Images with a double Click. (This feature exists int MacOS). Or with a right click on the file and then there must be a poit "Mount Image". I thick that would be a very use full Tool for every one.
A good example for this is CDemu.

I know there are some ohter good programs, but I think that would be the easyest way and very confortible.

Nanotron

This has already been reported upstream.

Thanks,

James

The idea could be nice, not sure it's useful to file ideas described on this website to launchpad too, especially when there is a bug upstream already

It seems that the plugin for Nautilus have already been done.

About nautilus-mount-image
Adds a new entry to the contextual menu which allows us to mount and unmount the selected CD or DVD image.

  Latest Version: 0.1.0
v0.1.0 - November 23, 2007 (Initial release)
* Adds an entry to Nautilus' contextual menu to mount / umount iso files.

Everyone interested in testing it can find the DEB file on the homepage of the project:

http://mundogeek.net/nautilus-scripts/#nautilus-mount-image

When the nautilus-mount-image plugin is uploaded to suitable Ubuntu repo,
 the bug can be closed.

I suggest to make it installed by default for the next Ubuntu version.

I think AcetoneISO 2 is the best solution. it supports all images and not only ISO. and in these days, it is so common to find images in daa, bin/cue, mdf, nrg ecc format.

it can mount, and do a LOT of other things. it is in qt4 and it simply works. it can also create ISO of cds and of directories.

Well packages for Ubuntu exists and have been uploaded to REVU. (Bug: 105452)

As for nautilus integration. The 1.1.0 release offers a simple desktop/mime-type association that allows mounting of images quite easy. On the mailiglist Nautilus integration has been discussed and this simple solution was chosen.

Of course a nautilus plugin could be made if anyone feels like putting in the manhours.

Regarding Acetone; it's README states:
"AcetoneISO2 uses poweriso binary file to convert and extract images.
It is not shipped with our software and will be downloaded when needed.
Poweriso is a Freeware software so sources are not available."

"sudo mount -o loop" always works fine for me. Why isn't this a default option?

There are also Nautilus scripts already written

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=87369

and gvfs Archive Mounter, though this is not enabled by default.

Are you sure that gvfs Archive Mounter is not enable by default ? I did nothing on my Intrepid and right-clicking on a iso file I can choose "Open with > Archive mounter".

The comment is about hardy, I'm not sure this is still the case in Intrepid. Did you install something special to get gvfs Archive Mounter in Intrepid ?

I mean that it's still not included in the context menu by default. You can only access it indirectly by using "Open with..."
