Nautilus won't open as default file manager

Bug Description

I set Nautilus as default "file browser".
When I perform some actions that need to launch default file manager (e.g. "show in folder" in Chrome download, "Open dropbox folder" in Dropbox menu, and so on) nothing happens and sometimes I get a general error of elementaryOS.
If I have a Nautilus window already open, then everything works fine.

This seems to be the bug we've been encountering since Jupiter - Nautilus won't start up when given a specific folder on command line unless it's already running. The bug is not noticeable in other distros because Nautilus draws the desktop there and thus is always running.
