1.0.3 is not in Ubuntu yet. Once it is, then someone will need to test the updated package in natty to make sure it builds, installs, and runs.

I must be misunderstanding the process. I thought that the backports would support newer versions of software already in the stable Ubuntu repositories.

They are, but they need to be in the development release of Ubuntu so we have
somewhere to backport from. Avogadro 1.0.3 isn't there yet, but I expect it
will be soon.

avogadro 1.0.3-1ubuntu1 is now in oneiric, so we can consider backporting it.

Before we can do so, we need to make sure we can expect the backport to work, so I've uploaded a test build to my PPA (https://launchpad.net/~broder/+archive/backports-tests). Please verify that the build completes successfully, then download and install the package on a natty machine/chroot and make sure it runs.

Once you've done the verification, you can change the status of the bug to "Confirmed" and we'll take another look at it.
