Too slow, when I try to add a new layer and draw somethin on it

Some info about the image dimensions and your CPU/environment would help. By the way there is planned a replacement for the current render engine.

Asus EeePC 1005HA (video: Intel integrated)
There is no problem in GIMP, or other same graphical program - Pinta.
1. Draw something with brush
2. Add new Layer (Object) above
3. Repeat first step on new Layer
