Bug Description

After upgrading from Mythbuntu 8.04.1 (which worked perfectly in this area) to 8.10 problems with tearing and vertical sync has occured. I use the same settings as of before with OpenGL acceleration on. The tearing in video is massive and makes it basically unwatchable. Enableing OpenGL vsync in 8.10 makes the frontend segfault:

Jan 4 12:24:04 frontend kernel: [ 929.048131] mythfrontend.re[7992]: segfault at 10 ip b60efc42 sp a4712b40 error 4 in libGL.so.1.2[b60b6000+56000]

I'm using a G33-based motherboard with a Intel 3100 integrated graphics chip. From some discussions in #ubuntu-mythtv there seems to be others with the same problem, all using any kind of Intel graphics. So the problem resides in the driver used in 8.10. Is it possible to backport from Jaunty or push the 8.04.1 driver into Intrepid repo?

00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82G33/G31 Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02)

Driver in 8.04.1: xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.2.1-1ubuntu13.7)
Driver in 8.10: xserver-xorg-video-intel (2:2.4.1-1ubuntu10)

Not likely to be backported from Jaunty. You would be best however to verify that it works properly in Jaunty now. If it doesn't then there is still time to get it fixed.

Please report back if it is still present in Jaunty.

Hi alanralsky81-spam,

Please attach the output of `lspci -vvnn`, and attach your /var/log/Xorg.0.log (and maybe Xorg.0.log.old) file from after reproducing this issue. If you've made any customizations to your /etc/X11/xorg.conf please attach that as well.

I'm sorry to inform you that I am in no position to test this on that hardware right now (it's being used for something else). I might find time for this during the summer but thats of cause after the planned release. Sorry again.

Since the hardware is no longer available for doing troubleshooting with, we'll have to close the bug for now. However please feel free to reopen if you or anyone else has the same HW and can reproduce this issue using the latest development version of Ubuntu and is willing to do some troubleshooting with it.
