Bug Description
After an attempt to install mythtv by upgrading from a regular ubuntu installation, which didn't go very well, I decided to try a different route and do a fresh installation from the live CD.
However, I got a crash while doing that fresh install, on mythbuntu 8.10.
Here is what I did more or less
- choose install from CD boot menu
- manual partitioning
- set existing partition for /home, create new 12Gb partition for /
- no remote / IR receiver selected
- open source driver for gfx (I have a nvidia card)
- install starts
- Install abruptly stops near the end of the progress bar
- I'm back on the the live CD
I've tried two times, the same thing happened again
I've attached /var/log/syslog
Apparently the installer didn't like the fact that I already had a ~/.mythtv directory. After deleting this directory, the install went without problems.

It looks like you have an existing home partition and it's not gracefully
handling it. This is a bug, but in the meanwhile, can you try to remove
/home/martijn/ .mythtv/
