Bug Description

Mythbuntu 7.10 freshly installed.

There isn't an entry for my remote, the bottom of the remote page says to submit a "bug". This remote is awesome in that it can control up to three other home theater electronics and the PC (not to mention the gyration mouse).

It would be great to have built in support for this awesome remote.

Hi thanks for filing this bug. Can you provide some more information what
is required to support this remote? Is it supported by LIRC, or an external
project?

Do you have a lircd.conf and lircrc file that you can add to the bug?

Thanks!

Hi Modulok,

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug.

Sadly we do not have access to all remotes available. If you have been unable to find a suitable lircd.conf elsewhere, I might ask that you record one yourself following this guide:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Install_Lirc_Gutsy#head-025c74d0d3764358ee4e877f536ede253efeaee3

Then attach the new lircd.conf to this bug, as we can get support included for future users.

Wow, fast reply!

I just got the remote and just got mythbuntu installed like 1hr ago. I did
mess with an old remote (ati remote wonder) with mythtv but not this remote.
I didn't get it working either, if you could guide me in the right direction
I will help with some of the necessary files.

I think I remember your nick from the ubuntu forums. want me to post in
there?

Here is the info I have on the remote:

remote connects to PC via RF, and has built in IR for home theater equip. I
am not sure if the remote can use IR to control the PC, but my HTPC doesnt
have IR, so its just using the RF receiver (usb dongle)

let me know what steps I should take.

Mike,

To start out, post any lsusb info relevant to the remote. If you have a
link to it online somewhere or anything that claims it should be supported.
The more information we have about it, the more likely we can have out of
the box support for Hardy.

Ok, the output from lsusb:

Bus 002 Device 003: ID 0c16:0002 Gyration, Inc.
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 15c2:ffdc SoundGraph Inc. iMON PAD Remote Controller
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 0000:0000
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 0000:0000

I have no links or have found anything relevant to this exact remote to be supported. The closest I have found is on the ubuntuforums. http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=479897

Let me know what else to try.

I have basically the same device. It is just rebranded by Fiire (http://www.fiire.com) as the FiireChief (http://www.fiire.com/fiire-chief.php). LinuxMCE uses this remote in all of its glory so there must be support in linux already.

Thought this might help.

LinuxMCE thread http://forum.linuxmce.org/index.php?topic=2308.0 these remotes have different firmware. It is all confusing to me. I wish I new about the fiire although I got two of the gyrations for a hundred bucks. Wish I could get this working in Mythbuntu.

If support for this remote can be included out of the box it would be great. Currently i got it to work for 7.10, and 8.04 with the instructions below.

If not offical support, how about a package that installs evrouter, the config files, and the autostart files.

Hi dustin:

Reading your description here, this isn't appropriate for the lirc package. I do definitely agree though we need some nice way of setting this remote up. If you would like to automate it, we would be glad to include such an item.

Hi Mario,

Thanks,

If you or someone else on this team could point me to some good deb package tutorials, then i'll give it a shot. My ideal end solution would be able to have the install as an option in MMC console eventually.

@laga: yes, dev/input can be used and the Gyration remotes play well with LIRC if you do that.

I created http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/index.php/Gyration-based_MCE_Remotes and showed how. Intrepid's 2.6.27 kernel should fix some of the incorrect keycodes generated by the remote as well.

Thank you for your bug report. As it is likely that nobody on the Mythbuntu team owns the specific hardware you have, we will require a few additional files in order to meet your request. Please attach the following files so we can add your hardware to the database.

lircd.conf containing all buttons with Common English Names (Up, Down, ChanUp, ChanDown, ect)
.lircrc configured for at least MythTV
hardware.conf

We will be unable to fulfill your request without these files. Until then, we will mark this bug as incomplete as we do not have the resources to generate this files ourself.
