Bug Description

Binary package hint: myspell-pt-br

This bug affect :
dpkg --search pt_BR.dic
myspell-pt-br: /usr/share/myspell/dicts/pt_BR.dic

The dicionary myspell-pt-br is a merge of PT_PT and PT_BR. And a lot of errors in two languages.

I recomended to use this version opensource :
http://www.deso-se.com.br/downloads/download.php?arquivo=pt_BR-2700g
http://www.deso-se.com.br/downloads/download.php?arquivo=pt_PT-2700C

That be more riched PT_BR and PT_PT and correct too.

I test in final version of Ubuntu Feisty.

Very good recommendation!!!
The original dictionary of OpenOffice.org is practically useless for PT_BR.

I do confirm the Hamacker's issue: the best PT_BR dictionary for brazillian guy is the one maintained by BROffice team. I hope that it be the official dictionary in the next OO release.

Agreed. The dictionary files should be changed.
I think that these changes would be benefical for both, PT-BR and PT-BR users.

Also, the default dictonary is kind of buggy. Like: some words only exists in plural, some time contractions are not recognizable but the word exists without it (and vice-versa).

This Brazilian version is used in BrOffice, which is being adopted as the default in schools and universities.
We want people to use OpenOffice in Ubuntu, instead of searching google or asking a friend to install BrOffice, which could conflict with the first (you uninstall or you stay with 2 OpenOffice, and none of them are a good alternative).

So, if Brazilian people could have a good dictionary bundle in Ubuntu`s OpenOffice it would be great to both teams, and great for us to.

It would be a great idea to replace the PT_BR dictionary using BROffice's dictionary.

I reinforce the importance of having a correct pt_BR dictionary.

In Gutsy we have the same problem, and users need to search over the Internet and use command line to install the correct dictionary.
Office is really very used here, and such problems are big block for OpenOffice.

Please, give more attention to this bug.

Thanks

I am the maintainer of the Debian package mypell-pt-br and I have no clue
why I am getting messages like the above from Ubuntu's launchpad. I have
whatsoever no connection with Ubuntu. Is there any way of stopping these
messages being sent to me?

At any rate, the Debian package is already updated with the dictionary found
in http://www.broffice.org.br/verortografico.

Best regards,

Rafael,

acho que pelo fato de você ser mantenedor do pacote no Debian,
você está cadastrado no launchpad.net (indiretamente).

Desculpe-me pelos e-mails.
