Bug Description

This isn't actually a bug, but something I would like to see in the future. Currently, many users have already made large playlists in their desktop players, such as Rhythmbox. In those players, there is an option to export and import playlists from .pls files. It would be very useful to be able to do this in the Music App as well, because you wouldn't need to add manually all those songs. Indeed, since in most cases the music files we transfer to the phone are the same than the ones in the desktop, there shouldn't be many problems for the app to recognize the songs in the .pls file (same tags, same properties...)

Can this be implemented in the app? Thank you!

Once the new media-hub bg-playlists implementation allows the Playlist object to be load/save as m3u/pls etc.

We can firstly move the playlists from their current localstorage (sqlite) implementation to using m3u/pls, we will still need a simple database to store a list of the filepaths to the m3u/pls's, the name of the playlist, possibly a cache of the count and the path to the optional icon (bug 1440021).

Then once we have moved to this new format, we can import/export them via content-hub (content-hub may need a new specific type called playlist for this to work correctly).

Agreed, this would be a neat feature for the converged/desktop app. We've discussed actual playlist files previously and I agree that this would be desirable.

Yeah, I was kinda disappointed finding out that it could not play my carefully crafted .pls.

I really look forward for this feature.
