2015-02-13 11:55:15 Sam Bull summary Mediaplayer should handle non-music audio files No easy way to listen to non-music audio files
2015-02-13 12:00:40 Sam Bull description As explained here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/URLDispatcher The music app is responsible for audio files under ~/Music. Trying to open an audio file elsewhere through the file manager currently does nothing. Mediaplayer should register with URLDispatcher to handle any other audio files. This is useful so that non-music files can be opened and played. For example, I currently need to put podcasts into a Music subfolder so that I can open them at all. Being able to open them in mediaplayer from another location on the system would allow me to separate these from my music, and stop getting random podcasts come up in Music when on shuffle. In order to listen to a non-music audio file at the moment requires opening the file with the music app, as this is the only option when opening an audio file from the file manager app. This results in the music app importing the file into the Music folder, which is very annoying. I simply want to be able to open/listen to an audio file without it having any relation to my music collection. 2 simple solutions that are possible: 1. Add URLDispatcher support to mediaplayer-app so that it can open audio files. 2. Stop the music-app importing files into the music collection without being asked to.
