Album art shows on MP3 in filesystem, but not in Music App

When I look at the attached MP3 in Ubuntu Files, and in Rhythmbox I can see the album art. But when I copy the MP3 to the music folder of my Nexus 4 and open it up in the Music App there is no cover art visible.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. I can confirm that when using the package music-app on Ubuntu 14.04/14.10 using the steps provided by Julien that I can reproduce the bug. Therefore I have set this bug to confirmed.

Furthermore when running the new mediascanner-2.0 branch this behaviour also exists as the album art is retrieved from last.fm maybe mediascanner-2.0 should check for embedded or local album art if none is found via online sources?

Extracting the cover art from the file itself or a local directory if none is found online would probably need coordination between both the Thumbnailer and Mediascanner projects. The Thumbnailer uses the metadata to return album art, however, it doesn't actually look at the files for metadata, such as embedded cover art.

This is the responsibility of thumbnailer. It is currently disabled due to a gstreamer 0.10 - 1.0 clash. Once gstreamer 0.10 is removed from the image, mp3 album art support will be re-enabled.

Unsubscribing mediascanner as this bug does not affect it.

Embedded cover art should be fixed when the music-app is next pushed to the store. I have reported bug 1372000 for tracking cover art within the same directory eg Folder.jpg.

With that bug branched off, there's nothing left for thumbnailer in this bug any more.
