Bug Description

My zd1211-based USB device works like a charm in Dapper. However, Network Manager thinks it's a wired interface!

This is a similar report:
http://mail.gnome.org/archives/networkmanager-list/2005-November/msg00066.html

This may be an upstream bug but don't know whether it should go to the LKML or NM lists. That's why I'm reporting this bug here.

(:ast apt-get upgrade was yesterday, on the 8th, running this on an older Athlon 1800).

I just noticed that iwconfig reports "no wireless extensions" for this card until "ifconfig up" is called. That would probably explain why nm thinks it's a wired device.

Do you use WEP with zd1211?

I could not get it work and several other people have issues:

The driver version that I got with Dapper Flight 6 is 2005-03-15, which is a year old. There are several revisions to the driver that make it much more robust.

Created bug report about the oldness of the driver, at bug 37795.

Does the new driver behave differently in this respect, such that network-manager would recognize it as a wireless interface? If so, this can be marked as a duplicate
