Bug Description

Hi all,
I'm using feisty 7.04 . I tried running an .rm (realplayer file) with Mplayer. This is the error I got :-

The playback of this movie requires a video/x-unknown-fourcc decoder plugin which is not installed.

it doesn't even try to see if its an .rm file & perhaps needs to go somewhere to install the codecs.

See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats. You need to
install w32codecs to play RealMedia, and it is unlikely to be legal for
MPlayer to tell you how to do that.

ok but I have already installed the w32codecs from http://www.debian-multimedia.org/pool/main/w/w32codecs/w32codecs_20061022-0.0_i386.deb but it still refuses to play.

I had a similar problem. In my case the output of mplayer suggested that it was not able to find some .dll in /usr/lib/win32. However, all codecs were in the usual (as recommended by README) place in /usr/local/lib/codecs. After creating a link

ln -s /usr/local/lib/codecs /usr/lib/win32

everything worked as expected.
