Bug Description

I have installed Moovida OK on one PC, but on another it will not install properly. There is just the background in shades of black / grey and one box in blue. I have discussed this on the forum and Saviq suggested I discuss it here. I am not a software developer though. See http://www.moovida.com/forums/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=1575

The PC on which I have the problem was built especially as a music server. The main components are as follows;

Overture 192 High Performance 24-bit 192kHz Audio Interface

The Cantatis Overture 192 Audio Interface uses twin differential state-of-art Burr Brown Digital to Analog Converters (DACs) operating in parallel mono mode to create one of the very best stereo audio output performances possible.

Combined with four stage pure analog power supplies, heavily filtered to minimise the electrical noise associated with computer power supplies, this allows the Burr Brown DACs and Burr Brown operational amplifiers to work to their maximum performance.

A Texas Instruments audiophile headphone amplifier provides the perfect output for a very wide range of headphones, from in-ear canal "buds" through to the most expensive studio monitoring headphones.

Digital S/PDIF outputs are provided via an optical TOSLINK connector and an electrical RCA connector for the ultimate in digital audio quality right up to 192kHz sampling rate.

The Overture 192 Audio Interface is not just for playing audio at its best! On-board expansion connectors allow the Overture system to be extended to provide analogue audio inputs via the Quartet Analog Input Expansion Module, digital audio inputs via the Toccata Digital Input Expansion Module and even allows audio to be played in any room in your home via the Concerto FM Transmitter Module.

The Overture 192 Audio Interface is accompanied by a purposefully simple set of drivers and a control panel designed to give flexible control of the entire interface, yet not to intrude into the normal operation of your chosen application.

Specification Outputs
 Analogue Headphone
Dynamic range (A-weighted) 132 dB 124 dB
Signal to Noise (A-weighted) 132 dB 125 dB
THD+N @ VOUT = 0 dB < 0.0004% < 0.0005%
Frequency response - 2Hz to 22kHz +/- 0.2 dB +/- 0.4 dB
Device specifications noted above; performance within particular computers may differ slightly.

Features
•Analogue outputs - nominal 2.3V rms on studio grade, gold plated RCA female connectors.
•Sample rates - 32kHz to 192kHz (automatic or user-selected up-sampling).
•Digital output S/PDIF - optical (TOSLINK) and co-axial (RCA) outputs at up to 192kHz.
•On-board expansion ports for additional audio outputs or inputs.
•PCI 2.2 compliant.
•WDM drivers for Microsoft Windows® 98SE, 2000, XP and Vista.
•Drivers work with Windows 7 (see Support Questions for details).
•ASIO 2.0 compatible, with suitable software.
•Intuitive control application for ultimate ease of use.

There seems to be a problem with a missing module named dbus???

Thanks for the report Andrew.
The output related to dbus in the logs attached is not linked to your issue.
We'll have a look at the report more in depth and see if we can extract some useful information that would explain your issue. A screenshot of what the UI looks like would help.

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for your help. When I added that screen shot yesterday, I had written a brief message in this comment box, but when I uploaded the screenshot the message didn't appear. I guess I have to write in the smaller box associated with the upload.

Anyway I wanted to add that the shot I sent is as it appears, full screen, when Moovida starts. In order to get that shot though, I had to resize it and just take the shot of it within its window to appear as it does when it starts up.

To make it change from full screen the the only way I found to do that is to hit Esc. a few times.

Regards,

Andrew

Olivier,

Again - I meant to say also that it is possible using the mouse to move the background left and right and move the blue highlit box up and down.

Cheers,

Thanks for all the precisions Andrew.
Note that to (un)fullscreen, you can use either ESC or F11 (pressing once will unfullscreen, pressing again will switch back to fullscreen).

Andrew: have you tested that other OpenGL-based applications work on this machine? Try e.g. Google Earth. VIA graphic cards are known to have problems in this regard.

Can you please attach the DirectX diag report? You'll find instructions on how to get it at http://supportwiki.steampowered.com/wiki/DXDIAG.

Can you also attach here the complete list of files in the %USERPROFILE%\.moovida\plugins\ folder, then try deleting all the files in it and relaunching Moovida. Does this make the situation any better?

Hi Olivier,

I hadn't tried Google Earth before on this machine, but now I have and it works.

List of Plugins follows;

FILE elisa_plugin_thetvdb-0.5.1.egg egg
FILE elisa_plugin_apple_trailers-0.6.3.egg egg
FILE elisa_plugin_canalplusfr-0.1.2.egg egg

FILE elisa_plugin_rtbf-0.9.egg egg
FILE elisa_plugin_jamendo-0.2.2.egg egg
FILE elisa_plugin_onion-0.3.egg egg

I tried deleting these and restarting Moovida and it started the same except the screen now looks like new screenshot Moovida2 to follow.

I'm also sending the DirectX Diag report.

Thanks

Andrew

It seems we have already experienced the same kind of problems in the past with a similar hardware configuration.
Apparently VIA's OpenGL drivers are pretty buggy and there's not much we can do on Moovida's side.
Try updating them and see if it helps: http://www.via.com.tw/en/support/drivers.jsp.

Hi Olivier,

Thanks for al your help. Sorry to see that the problem is with my equipment.

I had looked at the site you mentioned before this and there are no driver updates available for my board - I checked again just now. So I guess I have to give up on Moovida.

Unless the following could relate to it?

https://bugs.launchpad.net/moovida/+bug/410192/?loggingout=1

Cheers,

Andrew

No, bug #410192 is not the same issue.
It looks like Moovida with a VIA graphics card is currently a no-go, until they fix their drivers. Sorry about that.

Hi Olivier,

Well thanks again - I will draw this to the attention of VIA and hope they will do something about it.
