Bug Description

Feature request from the [http://elisa.fluendo.com/?page_id=8&forumaction=showposts&forum=1&thread=10&start=0 forum]:

Hello.
First Elisa is a very nice Media Center.

I have a sugest.
I’m a Linux, and Gnome user (actually Gnome 2.18.1, on Ubuntu 7.04), I can defined on keybord options what key, or key association correspond at “Play” “Stop” “Next” “Previous” “Vol Up” “Vol Down” “Mute” …
This system have an equivalent on KDE, or Windows systems. The Operating system have “virtual key” Play, Stop, …

If Elisa can une it, that was an good idée.

In the same time it can use multimedia key of keyboard.

Shortcuts defined by the user in GNOME/KDE/Windows could be reused in Elisa.

mmkeys_input read multimedia keys from dbus via org.gnome.SettingsDaemon interface.

It's only for Linux and only for gnome > 2.18 but it works here on gutsy 7.10 with gnome 2.20.0.1.
Don't know where I must put this plugin, patch add file in input_good.

cheers,
Nico

Thanks Nico,

I'll have a deeper look at it as soon as possible. At first sight it looks ok. Obvious issues are about where to put it: first it should go to the bad bundle and the license and maintainers field should be updated.

Is there a ready to use distribution of this patch? along with plugin.conf and such?

Some remote just emulate keyboards. Therefore I need mmkeys support to be properly able to use my remote.

Also, the current plugin does not support Volume Up and Volume Down, which should be handled as well. Currently GNOME responds to the Volume buttons, this means Compiz produces a very ugly overlay, instead of adjusting the Elisa volume control.

I hope this one makes it into 0.3.6...

Can we make that patch into an Elisa Bazaar branch on Launchpad?

I confirm that the multimedia keys (like XF86AudioPlay, XF86AudioPause, XF86AudioStop, XF86AudioPrev, XF86AudioNext, XF86Back, XF86MenuKB) are not working in Moovida. If pressed they just don't have any effect.

I think that Moovida should support out-of-the-box the gnome keyboard shortcuts set for the audio actions in gnome-keybinding-properties. I also think that Moovida should support not only the backspace key but also the XF86Back key.

DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.04

I agree that this kind of bug in a media center with a simple and elegant interface should really have a higher importance.
