Static Eth IP address loss on hardy-ppa platform

I'm using menlow-ubuntu-hardy-ppa.
After configuring the IP address for an Ethernet interface, we could successfully do ping
in a private network with a windows machine. But the Ethernet interface loses the IP address very quickly.
If I check with “ifconfig –a”, I could still see Ethernet interface is up. But there is no IP address is assigned.
I changed a different USB Ethernet connection, the result was the same.
I also changed the PCI Ethernet interface card. The result was same.
I did move to the menlow-lpia image with kernel-mid 2.6.24-13. The Ethernet connection is very stable.
