It should prompt a drop-down menu to show battery status.

there was never a set of requirements for this applet, so I just used the images to display the status. What exactly do you want displayed in the pulldown? A percent charge? The current charge rate? The units of power?

In the to-do list, it said:
Battery Life Statusbar
Need battery life statusbar indicator
 When touched, should show:
 - % of battery remaining.
 - time remaining when not plugged in.
 - time needed until full charge when plugged in

I checked it in applets 0.24, the issue still exists. Cannot show battery life status.
So it will be fixed in later applets version,right?

Rusty upped the version to 0.24 while I was on vacation, so this fix is in 0.25 instead. I added a pulldown which shows the percent charged, and if the device supports the battery.charge_level.rate ACPI event and corresponding HAL property, the remaining charge time or remaining battery time.

One thing to note is that the charge/discharge time is estimated based on the current charge rate value, so basically it's an expression of how long the thing will last if the exact same computing load is on the device for the duration. If you look at it just after boot, for instance, it will show less time than if it's been sitting there idling for a while. I'm not sure what the correct behavior is but this is what's there now.
