Some of the tools in the mkusb package create an NTFS file system, and for that reason it needs a tool for that purpose.

If you don't want to install the tools that install mkusb via ppa, you can install from a tarball according to the following link.

https://help.ubuntu.com/community/mkusb/gui/tarball

Then you are recommended to install some program packages, but you need not do it.

Please tell me how you intend to use dus (which tools and which tasks) and I will try to help you do it without installing things that you don't need.

I just tried to create USB with persistent storage - and I found that Ubuntu is sooooooooo slow, so I will use live USB instead...
