Personally i do not think it is a good idea.

We should go and use the idea of smart crates instead. Once that functionality is implemented, it is easy to come up with some default crates e.g. "artists". Furthermore the user can define its own criteria.

While I do think "smart crates" would be nice, I think the proposed "Artist/Album/Genre" categories are a much easier fix.

You can still extend them with "smart crates" at some point, but I assume the developing work is much less extensive for the "browsing extensions"!
