Bug Description

Hi Mixxx Developer Team,

first of all thank you al lot for developing such a great tool and sharing Iit with the world. I love to use MIXXX.

I'm running MIXXX under Arch Linux in the community package version 2.2.4-3.
Unfortunately I'm not able to select any effects. In the preferences all effects are activated but I can not select one. As shown on the screenshot I'm not even able to show a dropdown of effects. I can't see any errors or warnings in the log thats seems to be relevant for this behaviour. Do you have an Idea what library is missing or what could be wrong on my system to show tis behaviour?

Thanks
Robin

I missed to say that this error is happening in all Themes preinstalled.

Just to be sure this is not a UX issue:
did you click on the down arrow? (not the grey/orange effect toggle)

Can you try the following?
* download the attached effect units configuration
* put that into your .mixxx folder
 (ususally in Home, dunno what it is called in Arch)
* start Mixxx

Are the effect sots loaded now?
Can you change effects?

Hi ronso0,
thanks for your fast reply. Sry that my answer comes so late. I was very busy at work.

Using your effects.xml I'm able to see and activate the effects you have configured :)
(see screenshot). What I'm still not able to use is the dropdown menu for effects. It just does not show up. Does anyone has an idea what library is missing or which configuration could be wrong creating this behaviour?

Cheers
Robin

even though we never heard of that bug before it may be an issue with the Tango skin. Please go to Preferences > Interface and try another skin, Deere for example as that is close to tangeo aesthetically. There you don't need to hit the down arrow, you can click the entire effect name to expand the selector.

Hi,

thank you for your fast reply. This happens in every of the standard themes. Is there any log output of flag that can help to find out why?

no, actually it should just work.
I'm not familiar with Arch and what could go wrong there input-wise.

you use a mouse, correct?

In case you DJ with a controller with an fx section you can also use that to change effects: Shift + Fx knob turn.

ha, I just notice that in 2.2.4 you can scroll on the effect selector to choose an effect.
Does that work for you?

(we disabled that feature in 2.3 because it can create ugly situations when triggered accidentally)

Hi ronso0,

indeed scrolling over it works fine. It has to be a problem regarding the the menu that should appear when clicking dropdown only.

My DJ-Controller has no Effects-Slector thus I can not test this here.

Thanks for the idea with the chat. I will post the question there again.

Cheers,
Robin

Setting this to won't fix for now.

@Robin
what results do you get with 2.3beta?

Do you have this issue with any other Qt applications? Have you tried changing your Qt theme?

@ronso
I will try 2.3 beta in the next days. I have to compile it first. The AUR-Package is just a script downloading and building the git source code.

@Be
I tried to change it but it did not help.

I would like to add I am having exactly the same bug, also on Arch Linux. I see the behaviour in both 2.2 and 2.3.

@Robin @Sam Did you try recent builds of 2.3 and got the scrolling to work?

Hi ronso0,
sry for the late reply. I tried the most recent git version 2.4.0-alpha under Arch linux and the effect select boxes still do not work unfortunately.

then your only chance to get it working is to revert the commit that disabled changing the effect by scrolling the effect selector:
git revert bde5bed093e4581526b2fd6fe2e37f0f9e3c16da
(applied to the main branch this reports a conflict which is trivial to resolve)

Let us know if that helps.
