Bug Description

When I click on the Rekordbox menu I see

Rekordbox
Reads the following from Rekordbox prepared removable devices:
Folders
Playlists
Beatgrids
Hot cues
Memory cues
Loops (after first not usable in Mixxx 2.3 yet)
Check for attached Rekordbox devices (refresh)

However, no Rekordbox drives are found on Windows 10, which are attached via USB port.

Could you please confirm you have also clicked the white triangle beside the Rekordbox menu to reveal its children (should be all found Recordbox prepared removable devices)?

Can you please upload the export.pdb file on the USB drive? Should be located in [USB DRIVE LETTER]:\PIONEER\rekordbox

I have no export.pdb file.
There are only edb and db files in [Drive]:PIONEER/Master/

Can you please confirm you are trying to read Rekordbox removable devices that are prepared to be used in CDJ/XDJ players? (USB thumb drives or external USB hard drives). The Mixxx Rekordbox library feature is not able to read the Rekordbox Collection stored locally on your hard drive.

I have just confirmed that using Rekordbox 6.1.1 on Windows 10, exporting tracks from the Rekordbox Collection to a USB thumb drive and a USB external hard drive, then opening Mixxx 2.3 beta for Windows that the Rekordbox removable devices are listed and playlists/tracks/hotcues/etc can be played without issue.

I have moved my Rekordbox 6.1.1. database to an external USB hard drive via the Preferences > Advanced > Database management > Drive following this instructions at https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/articles/205021549-Moving-your-rekordbox-database-Video-

I can play music from that new database on my USB drive.

This is not the use case the Rekordbox integration has been designed for. Reading from the (encrypted) master database is not supported.

Ok. Then how do I get Rekordbox database into Mixxx?

Revision history for this message
Evan (ehendrikd) wrote :

If you want to use your entire Rekordbox database in Mixxx, you will need to export your entire collection as though it were intended to be used in a CDJ/XDJ, not moving the your Rekordbox database in the process you describe.

Is this still possible with Rekordbox 6?
I didn't find this option.
Is there any instruction how to do this?

It would be helpful if we link to the relevant section of Rekordbox's documentation from the Mixxx manual. https://github.com/mixxxdj/manual/issues/136

Just reading the "Using USB storage devices for DJ performance (USB EXPORT)" section of the Rekordbox manual, it surprisingly does not detail how to actually export onto a USB device from Rekordbox. There are a number of ways I know of to export to removable devices in preparation for playing on CDJ/XDJs (and therefore Mixxx), depending on what you want to export:

1. Click "Collection" tree item, select ALL tracks from the track list, right click on tracks, "Export Tracks", then select the USB drive, to export ALL tracks in your collection
2. Right click on the "Playlists" tree item, "Export Folder", then select the USB drive, to export ALL playlists
2. Right click on a particular playlist tree item, "Export Playlist", then select the USB drive, to export only selected playlist

Alternatively you can simply drag-and-drop in any of the above scenarios (instead of right click "Export") by dragging tracks or playlists onto the USB drive letter in the tree view.

Thank you very much for your explanation @Evan.
I was also surprised about the missing details in the manual but I figured it out.
Another complication was, that it only works if a FAT USB drive is plugged in and otherwise the options are greyed out.

Therefore I support @Be's comment, that more information in Mixxx would be helpful. It could be added to the Mixxx "Rekordbox Library" item and look like this:

Rekordbox
Reading Rekordbox databases for CDJ/XDJ players on USB or SD devices.
The database has to be exported to a USB or SD device with a FAT or HFS file system using the Rekordbox Export mode.
Not supported are databases that have been moved to an external device via
Preferences > Advanced > Database management.

The following data is read:
Folders
Playlists
Beatgrids
Hot cues
Memory cues
Loops (not yet supported in Mixxx 2.3)

Check for attached Rekordbox USB / SD devices (refresh)

summary: - Mixxx 2.3 not showing Rekordbox devices
+ Missing details on which Rekordbox databases are supported

Thank you for your feedback, a valid comment that only FAT drives are supported. There are no manual entries yet written for Rekordbox yet, having this information already will help guide what needs to be there.
