Switching audio output is slow

Bug Description

Reloading audio devices makes mixxx unresponsive for at least a few seconds.
Selecting a new audio device sometimes even leads to it not responding anymore at all, even after waiting a few minutes.
When the default audio device of the system changed between the last startup and is selected in the settings, mixxx fails to load waveforms for tracks and refuses to play anything.
Often, I have to start mixxx twice to change the active audio device, because after the first restart it goes into this no-playing mode described above.

I work on Linux.

I presume this is using ALSA? I think the problem is with ALSA or PortAudio.

I use KDE Plasma as my desktop everywhere, and as far as I know it uses ALSA, yes.

I now start mixxx without "pasuspend", and it starts up and shuts down a LOT faster and is quicker when interacting with audio devices.
