Bug Description

External mixers with integrated USB audio interfaces such as the Rane TTM57mk2 are designed to use samplers in the DJ software. This requires an output bus that has all the samplers mixed together, which Mixxx does not presently have.

I am not sure if we really need a sampler output bus. This would be an artificial beast just for a single use case.
We have already the mid bus. I think that should be sufficient, or do I miss something?

I don't understand why we have crossfader bus outputs. I couldn't imagine a user figuring out they could send samplers to a mixer with the center crossfader bus output. Also, what if the hardware mixer lets the user assign samplers to the mixer's crossfader? That would get really confusing.

They are necessary, if you want to use four decks with a two stereo channels sound card and a hardware Mixer. This is quite handy, because you just replace the internal crossfaded with an external. If you choose the deck outputs, you have just two decks.

That does not make sense and I am sceptical anyone is actually doing that. What is the use of sending two decks to the same mixer channel when the EQs and volume fader are coupled for both decks?

I can find only two old forum threads on the topic:
https://mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=4148
https://mixxx.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=7937

In neither case are users asking for a crossfader bus output. They are asking for a sampler bus output.

In neither of those forum threads are users asking for crossfader bus outputs. They are asking to send samplers to an external mixer. Many mixers that do not have a dedicated sampler input have an auxiliary input that could be used for this purpose. Bug #970965 is also asking for this but proposing a bad way of implementing it.

Why do you think that a bad way? It just works.
The m-bus is you sampler bus but nice configurable.

And exactly this is requested:

> Is there a way to send four decks through two channels? I would like to play all four at once if possible.

Yes, you can use the left bus for deck 1 and 3
and the right bus for deck 2 and 4.

> Also, is there a way to assign the samples to the channel outputs?

Yes, you can map them also to the left or right bus.

I think I will update this old thread accordingly.

Why did you remove this from the 2.2 milestone? I would prefer a new contributor to take care of this, but I can if no one does before the 2.2 feature freeze.

We have already a sufficient solution.

Maybe it is only a documentation or string issue?

I think the M-Bus is generally a good option for anybody with a spare channel they can use, even if not obvious and may confuse some people at first (better documentation may help but definitely not for everybody.) But still this is not going to fix it for anybody using a two channel mixer, like the VMS2 owners who opened the threads/Bugs linked above.

By default, if configured for a two channel external mixer, VDJ mixes the Samplers in with all Deck outputs. I think a checkbox in Preferences somewhere to optionally mix the M bus into both L/R bus outputs would help users of these devices. Definitely not perfect but may be an improvement for two channel MIDILog style mixer/controllers....

So although I don't think it's really needed I can see how a specific Sampler output could simplify things and help prevent necessary headaches and questions from users and I don't think it would be that much extra clutter to the Audio Preferences page.
