Bug Description

While DJing at a local venue in Auto DJ mode, suddenly the 2nd deck became completely unusable. I couldn't insert a new track, the disk wouldn't populate, and I could only fix it by cycling MIXXX.

I'm unsure of what the smoking gun in - in the interim I'm running the program in admin mode, compatibility mode set to W8, & I've lowered the FPS on the Eq. from 30 to 24.

I suspect this is a duplicate of 1490580, which has already been fixed in the master Git branch. Does the bug happen whenever you try to play the file C:/Users/rfodi/Music/01 Red Mud.mp4 ? If so, try a master build from http://downloads.mixxx.org/builds/master/release/

Thank you for the prompt reply. I have tested "Red Mud" with a simple
audio configuration using my laptop as primary speakers - no issue. The
configuration when this occurred was different however.

Please verify this is the latest master build for windows 64x edition -
thanks in advance!

Thank you for the detailed bug report. Unfortunately any issues with decoding and playback of files in version 2.0 are not relevant any more. We have rewritten the backend almost completely.

I will close this bug with status "Fix Committed", because it is very unlikely to provide helpful information.

Testing the new version is very much appreciated and I even recommend to use it instead of 2.0.

The bug happened AGAIN on 7/29:

System - W10 Surface Pro 4 64x
SW: mixxx-2.1.0-alpha-pre-master-git6329-release-x64 (Run as admin mode + W8 compatibility)
File type of all music is .mp3- not FLAC.

Same scenario, left Auto DJ running and all of a sudden the music stopped with Deck 2 unable to operation normally. The fix was cycling Mixxx.

This bug was reported as fixed: https://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/troubleshooting. It needs to be fixed ASAP.

This is not a decoding error and also none of the issues that have already been fixed.

I don't see any errors or noticeable messages in the logs.

I just noticed "Red Mud" and "It Girl" were .mp4 instead of .mp3. Both
occurences of deck 2 crashing was when these songs were being played, I've
since then converted them both to .mp3.

Hope that fixes things.

As explained on the wiki at https://www.mixxx.org/wiki/doku.php/troubleshooting#a_deck_randomly_stops_playing , converting from one lossy format like AAC to another like MP3 is not recommended. Instead, it is recommended to either use prerelease versions of 2.1 or convert the MP4 files to FLAC and keep the original files around, then delete the FLAC files when upgrading to 2.1.

Seems like there's an extreme gap between July/Aug builds.

The closest thing to release notes for the master builds would be the Git commit history:
https://github.com/mixxxdj/mixxx/commits/master

We're currently having issues with the build server and website. There indeed have been changes in the master branch since July, but somehow the master builds since July 10 were lost from https://downloads.mixxx.org/

Understood - thanks for the update.

I do not see any x64 .msi installs for the latest build - is this being
worked on or omitted intentionally?
